Carbohydrate sensitivity in obesity

Carbohydrate sensitivity, or insulin resistance, is common in individuals with obesity and affects how the body processes sugars. Those with high sensitivity may experience rapid blood sugar spikes and crashes after consuming carbs, leading to increased hunger and weight gain. Reducing intake of refined carbohydrates, opting for whole grains, and balancing carbs with protein and healthy fats can help stabilize blood sugar and manage weight. Low-glycemic diets that prioritize slow-digesting carbs may be particularly beneficial. Understanding one’s carbohydrate tolerance and making dietary adjustments can support better blood sugar control, reduced cravings, and weight management.
