Ghrelin levels in obesity

Ghrelin, known as the “hunger hormone,” plays a crucial role in appetite regulation by signaling the brain to stimulate hunger. In individuals with obesity, ghrelin levels can remain elevated, leading to an increased drive to eat, even when caloric intake is sufficient. This hormonal imbalance can make weight management challenging, as frequent hunger signals contribute to overeating. Strategies to manage ghrelin levels include dietary modifications, such as focusing on high-fiber and protein-rich foods that promote satiety. Additionally, regular physical activity and sufficient sleep have been shown to positively influence ghrelin levels. Understanding and addressing ghrelin's role in obesity can be key to effective long-term weight management.
