Obesity and gallbladder disease

Obesity significantly increases the risk of gallbladder disease, especially gallstones. The accumulation of excess body fat, particularly visceral fat, disrupts bile composition, raising cholesterol levels and fostering the formation of gallstones. Individuals with obesity are also more likely to experience slower gallbladder function, which can exacerbate the problem. Although weight loss can reduce the risk of gallbladder disease, it should be approached carefully. Rapid weight loss can trigger gallstone formation, so a gradual reduction in weight through a balanced diet and regular physical activity is recommended. This approach helps maintain gallbladder health while supporting overall well-being.
